Imagine, you have just spent the last 5, 10, 20 or more years of your life behind bars. Clothing has changed, you have been given $50.00 and are told you will get another $50.00 when you report to parole in a few days. You are taken to a "thrift shop" and told you can pick out some clothes. Some clothes are old and some are outdated, but you really don't know any better because when you went in, bell bottoms were the style. This bag is all you can carry your things in, and that includes what you bring with you from prison. Everything you own. Most of these men come with TDCJ issued tennis shoes and flip flops, but a lot of them were indigent while incarcerated and their shes are falling apart when they arrive. You leave with a small travel toothbrush and whatever else you can fit in this mesh bag.
For however long these men were incarcerated, they were wearing TDCJ issued undergarments, socks and undershirts, they weren't your own, they all went into the laundry together and you got back whatever you got back. We would like to make sure that these men have the ability to get brand new undergarments, socks and undershirts as soon as they get out and get to our houses. These things aren't a luxury, they are a necessity. If you would like to help by donating undergarments, sock and undershirts, or would like to donate towards the purchase of them.
